Best Books - Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher

Now that I'm on my summer break from university, I decided to take some time to read again when I have some more spare time. For quite a few months now I have been following the Fletcher family thanks to the means of social media. I know that I am a little late to the game, but the first book I have read this summer is Giovanna's "Billy and Me", which was first published in May 2013.

I was initially going to review the books that I read here, but I think, at this current time I'd rather just share those that I have enjoyed and will enjoy in the future. This way, not only is it more of a recommendation, but I will be able to look back and have the opportunity to revisit these books.

The blurb of this romantic novel is as follows:

"Sophie May has a secret.

One that she's successfully kept for years. It's meant that she's had to give up her dreams of going to university and travelling the world to stay in her little village, living with her  mum and working in the local teashop.

But then she meets the gorgeous Billy - an actor with ambitions to make it to the top. And when they fall in love, Sophie is whisked away from the comfort of her life into Billy's glamorous - but ruthless - world.

Their relationship throws Sophie right into the spotlight after years of shying away from attention. Can she handle the constant scrutiny that comes with being with Billy? And most of all, she is ready for her secret heartbreak to be discovered and shared with the nation?"

Instantly, you cannot find the lead character Sophie a delight. Giovanna portrays her as a relatable, likeable yung woman who you just want the best for in this fictional novel. One of my favourite parts of the book is that in the beautiful, descriptive aspects you can create mental imagery of what the characters, setting and scenery are all like for yourself. This is something that I really love to be able to do whilst reading. I'm a sucker for any love story, and Giovanna's description of the novel's hearttrob, high-end actor Billy Buskin makes it even better. A huge part of the book involves "Tea-on-the-Hill", a local teashop Sophie works in. This treasure of a place reminded me very much of a lovely place in my own life, with the similar name "Tea on the Green", which I mentioned in my previous post.

I don't want to ruin anything for you if you do decide to give it a read so I'll leave it there with spoilers. I found myself getting really invested in the book and despite working quite a lot of hours last week I managed to finish it in a matter of days! Typically of me, I began reading the sequel "Always with Love" immediately and have just finished that also. I plan to write a separate post on this book. For a debut novel by Giovanna Fletcher, you can't really expect more. So, if an extraordinary romantic novel is your style the definitely give this a read.

Love,
